About Us

headshotJim Vanderwoud has significant experience representing a variety of clients in complex real estate transactions, including joint ventures, financings and the acquisition and disposition of commercial property.

Jim counsels corporate clients regarding the real estate aspects of M&A transactions and in relation to the negotiation of office and retail store leases. 

After practicing at Katten Muchin Rosenman, Jim joined a client as transactional and eventually general counsel.  The experience of working on both sides of the client relationship has molded the principles of the firm. Trained in "Six Sigma" quality methods, Jim is process-oriented and strives to bring efficiencies to each engagement to allow your people to focus on your business.

Jim received his J.D. with Honors from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, and his B.B.A. with Distinction from the University of Michigan School of Business Administration. Prior to attending law school, he worked in labor relations for International Paper Company and General Electric. 

Jim is actively involved with the Evans Scholar Foundation and Evans Scholar Alumni Association.  He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bar Association, is admitted to practice in Illinois and has appeared pro hac vice before the Northern District of Illinois.
